José Manuel Albares Bueno has been the Foreign Affairs Minister of Spain since July 2021.
Minister Albares is a career diplomat and a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), the social-democratic party headed by current prime minister Pedro Sanchez. His focuses have been relations with Morocco and strengthening ties with North Africa, the Sahel and Latin America.
From 2020 to 2021, Minister Albares served as the Ambassador of Spain to the French Republic and the Principality of Monaco. Prior, Minister Albares was Secretary-General for International, European Union, G20 and Global Security Affairs, Office of the Prime Minister.
Minister Albares studied Law (Economics and Law) and Business Science at Deusto University and holds a diploma in National Defence Studies, Spain Centre for National Defence Studies as well as a diploma in Cultural Management Abroad from Carlos III University.
WJC hosted a reception in Minister Albares’ honor in September 2022, on the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly.
